When travelling further north from Puerto Natales where I left Eric and Marisa, I visited El Calafate, which is known for the Perito Moreno glacier. Honestly, I was not much motivated stopping there, because I am used to see glaciers in Switzerland. However, I was very much impressed; just give a look:

When coming closer, I realised the dimension. That was really fascinating. I have never seen this amount of ice and I was overwhelmed, when a cerax of approximately 80 meters height fell into the water. The noice, the vibration, … spectacular!

The next day I decided to make a quick stop in El Chaten, because everybody is rhapsodising when talking about the famous mountains and especially about Fitz Roy. Again I was not sure whether this is worth (180 km extra), because we have so many beautiful mountains in Switzerland as well. Anyway, after my good experience in El Calafate, I opted in and drove there.

Retrospectively, I would not go there again. The whole city, the people and the scenery just reminded me to what you can perceive in Zermatt: everybody says it’s a „must have been there“, the (pseudo-) hikers and climbers occupy the whole infrastructure, look at a mountain like the Matterhorn that most of them will never climb, and everybody accepts the overpricing in the streets.
The views were nice. The coffee and the small piece of cake cost me a fortune! The time that I needed for refuelling my motorbike was approximately 1 hour – this was the only gas station in town and the queue was loooong!
